Pierre Bartholomée: Soli
Ophélie Gaillard, Pierre Bartholomée, Dominica Eyckmans, Francette Bartholomée, Jean-Philippe Merckaert
AP014 - 1CD - 70' - Apr 5, 2011

Author of numerous works, Pierre Bartholomée was artistic director and permanent conductor of the Orchestre philharmonique de Liège for twenty-two years. Founder, with Henri Pousseur, of the Musique Nouvelle ensemble in 1962, he had privileged relationships with Olivier Messiaen, Iannis Xenakis, Luciano Berio, Pierre Boulez and Alfred Schnittke, and premiered many of their works. His compositions have been performed worldwide by such artists as Jordi Savall, José Van Dam, Mireille Delunsch and the Ensemble Intercontemporain...

This monographic CD presents five recent works for solo instruments, performed by musicians loyal to Pierre Bartholomée. Oraisons for cello and Face à face for viola were written respectively for Ophélie Gaillard and Dominica Eyckmans, who created them. Le Livre d'orgue (2008) is dedicated to Bernard Foccroulle, the man behind Pierre Bartholomée's two operas for the Théâtre royal de la Monnaie.

A testimonial disc on a composer and conductor who was an active player in the music of his time.
